In 2008 Deep Zone and DJ Balthazar represented  Bulgaria with their song DJ, take me away, written by Dian Savov and performed 12^th in the second semi final where they place 11^th with 56 points and missed out qualifying to the final. In 2008 the former rule enabling countries which had achieved a top 10 position in the previous contest to qualify directly to final the following year was eradicated. From 2008 onwards all the participating countries with the exception of the BIG 5 and host country were obliged to compete in the semifinals in order to qualify to the grand final. Had the former rule being in force Bulgaria would have competed in the final in 2008.
