France: Les Fatals Picards say no to violence against women

Two years after the album Coming out, Les Fatals Picards, the band that represented France in Helsinki in 2007, are back with Septième ciel released last monthAmong the brand new tracks, the new single Gros con, despite its joyful sounds, deals with a very serious topic: violence against women.

Gros con, i.e. ‘you big stiff’, is about the story of a woman who falls in love with a guy who turns out to be violent against her. The music video, in white and black, puts in perspective women carrying posters showing either parts of the lyrics of the song or some dramatic statistical data such as “20% of the homicides happening in France are due to domestic violence” or ” 75,000 women are raped in France every year”.

The video remains soft however and the music and the intelligent lyrics of the song prove once more that Les Fatals Picards are experts in conveying messages through their apparently innocent tracks.
