On Saturday 5 October Eurovision fans will gather at Chancellors Hotel in Manchester for the OGAE UK Eurobash. Almost as soon as places became available the event sold out, such is its popularity. Eurobash has been using this title for 8 years but an annual event for many more.

People come not only from the UK, but further afield, for this weekend which is very much about participation from everybody.

The day contains Battle of the Bash, which this year will be fought between songs from the ten years of Semis which didn’t qualify for the Eurovision Song Contest Finals, The Quiz, where each table team finds out which of them has the widest knowledge of obscure facts, The Q&A with this year’s special guests:

Josh James (Dubovie) who represented the United Kingdom in 2010 with the song That Sounds Good to Me, Maja Keuc who sang her heart out for Slovenia with No One when the contest was held in Düsseldorf in 2011 and the crowd will get an insight into the job of a Head of Delegation as Latvia’s Zita Kaminska is the third member of the panel.

The evening sees EuroStars 2013 where there is never a shortage of people wanting to put on glamorous outfits and perform as artists from across the years for the treasured Winner’s trophy.

James and Maja will also be exercising their professional vocal chords for everyone’s entertainment and, of course, a disco will end the proceedings.

I attended my first Eurovision Song Contest in 1995, and from 1996 presented daily live reports for radio stations from the event. Since then I have been providing material from everywhere the contest has been held. I also enjoy compiling most of the video materials for three UK ESC events each year. In 2010 I first provided material for esctoday.com.
