The Flemish Broadcaster VRT/Eén have been assigned the task of organising the selection process for Belgium’s 2014 Eurovision Song Contest entrant.  The new format will see a change from the more modest formats used by the broadcaster in 2010 and 2012, and they have announced that there will be a search for candidates in the next few weeks.

The selection process will feature a series of programmes which, according to VRT/Eén will let “anyone whoever dreamed of performing on the biggest stage in Europe to give it a try”.

The candidates have been asked to audition in a slightly unconventional way.  They must submit a short clip of themselves performing a song, but not just any song – they must perform their own version of a classic Eurovision Song Contest song!  Due to the wide range of music genres which have featured in the Contest over the past 58 years, the possibilities are limitless! A ballad version of Hard rock hallelujah, an up-tempo Molitva or even a country Fly on the wings of love are all examples of what a bit of creativity and over 1000 songs can do!

The Flemish broadcaster is also on the lookout for composers and songwriters, both Belgian and international, who wish to submit their songs for the selection.
