Jedward set to appear in Dublin pantomime from December.
The Irish twins have announced they are to perform in Beauty and the Beast at the city’s Olympia Theatre from Wednesday 18 December until Sunday 5 January.
They were joined earlier in the week by television presenter Glenda Gilson on a bus tour of the Irish capital to promote the coming theatre run.
While on the bus tour, John and Edward spoke about how they plan to crack Africa, their music having become popular in Nigeria. They play all our songs out there on their radio stations, said Edward. We’d love to go and do an African tour and see Africa. We’d love to go on a safari and everything.
Jedward also revealed they hope to start work on a new album before long, having been inspired by Linda Martin‘s performance of Daft Punk‘s Get lucky on RTE’s Saturday Night Show recently. John said: All the girls around the whole entire world are expecting a big, big album so we’re going to start work on a worldwide album.
It is the fourth year in a row that Jedward have starred in the Olympia Theatre’s pantomime. Previously, the pair has taken roles in Cinderella, Jedward and the beanstalk and Jedward and the magic lamp.
Dublin’s Olympia Theatre was also the venue for a charity concert attended by Jedward at the end of June. A Night for Christy was held to raise money for the cancer treatment needed by Christy Dignam, lead singer of Irish rock band, Aslan. The singer was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer in March. Jedward were joined on stage by many famous Irish artists including Mary Black, Shane MacGowan, Paul Brady, and Weslife’s Mark Feehily, to perform covers of Aslan’s songs.
It would be a great tribute to Christy if Aslan were in the charts, so everyone should download their tracks, Jedward said on stage. That would be awesome.
Meanwhile, Jedward were on hand to surprise two superfans live on air during British magazine programme, This Morning. Laura Morris and Julie Atkin spoke on the ITV show about how they have spent £50,000 following their idols around the world, with Laura even giving up her permanent job to do so. Both women were delighted when Jedward showed up in the studio to meet them.
We want to thank you guys for being so Jedicated, Jedward told them. Jepic and awesome. We really appreciate all the stuff you do for us.
John and Edward have also spoken about the disappointing outcome for Ireland’s Ryan Dolan at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. You never know with Eurovision. I think he deserved to do better, the song was really, really cool, said Edward. The pair have not ruled out a return to the contest themselves.
Tickets for Beauty and the Beast are on sale from €25, with the twins performing between December 18 – January 5.
