An Israeli-French artist called Shirel has released a humoristic video of a song called 12 points pour l’Eurovision. In her song and video, Shirel depicts clichés of the contest and reminds us that France has not won the contest since 1977 with Marie Myriam singing L’oiseau et l’enfant.
Shirel mentions that to win the contest a love or peace song in English has more chances to win and that making children take part is appealing. In the chorus, she begs Europe to give 12 points to France as it has been 36 years since the last French victory and also that French people are tired of always being last. Perhaps Shirel is willing to represent France in Malmö in May?
France3, the French national broadcaster, has revealed last December to esctoday.com that its committee would meet in January to discuss France’s 55th entry.
Shirel is a 33–year-old singer, daughter of Jeane Manson who represented Luxembourg in 1979 in Jerusalem with J’ai déjà vu ça dans tes yeux, finishing thirteenth with 44 points. Shirel sold more than 50 000 copies of her first album and has toured the world as Esmeralda in the French musical Notre Dame de Paris. She has also taken part in the adaption of the musical Avenue Q in French, for which she took the role of Kate/Lucy. Her third album is due for release on 18 February 2013.
