Burgas’s municipal transport company, Burgasbus, is set to enhance its English-language information services across its buses, stops, and digital platforms. This initiative comes as part of the city’s preparations for a potential bid or hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. The commitment was officially confirmed in a response from Deputy Mayor Stanimir Apostolov to municipal councillor Violeta Diyanova.

In a significant move towards international readiness, Burgas’s public transport operator, Burgasbus, is actively working to expand its English-language information. This includes detailed information on bus routes, ticket purchasing, and bus stops, which will be made available both on board vehicles and through their electronic channels.

The enhanced services are directly linked to the city’s ambitions and preparations concerning the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. The municipality of Burgas is all set to ensure that given that the Eurovision Song Contest is such a major international event the city’s public transport infrastructure should be fully accessible and easy to navigate for foreign visitors.

The decision stems from an inquiry by municipal councillor Violeta Diyanova regarding the foreign language preparedness of the municipal company’s employees and services. Deputy Mayor Stanimir Apostolov‘s response highlights the city’s commitment to improving its services for an international audience, underscoring the importance of seamless communication for large-scale events like Eurovision.

BTA’s press release reads:

Burgas municipal transport operator Burgasbus will expand English-language passenger information ahead of Eurovision, Deputy Mayor Stanimir Apostolov said on Friday in a written reply to a municipal councillor.

The additional information will appear on buses, at stops and through the company’s digital channels as part of preparations for the 2027 contest. Apostolov was responding to Municipal Councillor Violeta Diyanova about foreign-language training for company staff.

The planned English-language information will cover service names and numbers, routes, stops, tickets and ticket validation, transfers and main destinations.

The reply, published on the Municipal Council’s official website, says staff have varying levels of foreign-language proficiency, with many able to communicate in English or other foreign languages. Some have completed online English training under a company project.

Burgasbus plans to organize a further English course for staff in early 2027. The training will develop basic language skills and improve existing proficiency, focusing on situations staff encounter when assisting passengers.

The course will also cover the use of voice assistants and other digital tools to translate and communicate with foreign passengers when needed.

The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at the Arena Burgas in Burgas, Bulgaria on 11, 13 and 15 May.
