Burgas is set to optimize its transport connectivity in preparation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, which the city will host next year. This significant development was announced by Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Peev, following a meeting with Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov. The discussions focused on ensuring smooth logistics for the international event and its anticipated influx of visitors.

Burgas Prepares for Eurovision 2027 with Transport Overhaul

As Burgas gears up to host the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2027, extensive plans are underway to enhance the city’s transport infrastructure. Minister Georgi Peev confirmed that the Ministry of Transport and Communications will offer its full support to Burgas, ensuring the city is well-prepared for the influx of Eurovision fans and delegations.

During a productive meeting with Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, key areas of focus included optimizing connections to Istanbul and Sofia airports, as well as improving internal railway transport within Bulgaria. The Minister emphasized the importance of these improvements for the smooth organization of the major international event and the movement of expected visitors. He added that preparations for Eurovision next year require close coordination between state and local institutions, particularly concerning transport and logistical arrangements.

Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev says:

We talked about the ways in which transport should be optimized – from connections with the airports in Istanbul and Sofia to internal railway transport. Burgas can count on full cooperation from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, so I think we will do well,

Mayor Nikolov also revealed that discussions are progressing regarding the potential use of the former Magaziya 7 site in the port terminal for the Eurovision Village. This location is considered ideal due to its proximity to the city centre, the railway station, the South Bus Station, and the Sea Garden, ensuring easy access for attendees without disrupting urban public transport. The Minister has pledged to ensure the site is cleared and prepared for review by European Broadcasting Union (EBU) representatives.

Bulgaria is hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time following Dara’s victory at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna. The Grand Final of Eurovision 2027 is scheduled for Saturday, 15 May, with Semi-Finals on Tuesday, 11 May, and Thursday, 13 May. All three live shows will take place at the modern Arena Burgas, which boasts a capacity of up to 15,000 spectators for concerts.
