Latvian national broadcaster, Latvijas Sabiedriskais medijs (LSM), has confirmed a strong interest in Supernova 2027, their national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. A total of 125 songs have been submitted for consideration, showcasing a vibrant array of musical talent from Latvia. This impressive number indicates a healthy competition for the coveted spot to represent Latvia in Eurovision 2027.
The submission window for Supernova 2027, Latvia’s method for selecting its Eurovision entry, officially closed on October 1, 2026. Throughout the submission period, which commenced on August 1, 2026, artists and songwriters were invited to put forward their original compositions.
LSM has now confirmed that they received 125 entries for the upcoming edition of Supernova. This figure reflects the continued enthusiasm within the Latvian music scene for the Eurovision Song Contest and the platform that Supernova provides for aspiring artists.
What’s next for Supernova 2027?
Following the closure of submissions, a professional jury appointed by LSM will now meticulously evaluate all received entries. This professional jury will play a crucial role in shortlisting the songs that will ultimately compete in the televised stages of Supernova 2027.
The Latvian broadcaster is expected to announce the selected acts and their songs in November 2026. Supernova 2027 promises to be an exciting event, with the Grand Final scheduled for February 6, 2027, at the Xiaomi Arena in Riga. This marks a significant change, as it will be the first time the final is held outside the television studios, aiming to create a larger, more festival-like experience for both artists and fans.
Agnese Štrause-Kubliņa (Head of the Entertainment and Documentary Content Editorial Department at LTV) says:
This year’s entries mark a very wide musical amplitude and confirm that interest in the opportunity to represent Latvia at Eurovision is very high. The opportunity to perform on the world’s largest stage and in front of an audience of hundreds of millions is a unique privilege and a huge responsibility. This year’s competition will be fierce, as the entries include both experienced and audience-loving artists, as well as newcomers with clear ambitions. A responsible selection process lies ahead, so that the public will find out the finalists by the end of November,
