CBC/Radio Canada has appointed Jennifer Dettman as the Candian Head of Delegation at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Jennifer Dettman will the Canadian Head of Delegation at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria.
Jennifer Dettman is the Executive Director of Unscripted Content and Studios at CBC/ Radio Canada.
Canada will be debuting at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 and has already kicked off preparations for Eurovision 2027 and opened the registration portal for Canadian artists wishing to represent Canada to sign up. The 2027 Canadian Eurovision act will be determined via a combined public/ jury deliberation whilst the song will be determined via an internal selection.
The 2027 Canadian Eurovision act is expected to be selected before winter.
Jennifer Dettman says:
We’ve been sort of building the airplane as we’re flying it, if I’m being honest. We thought, OK, we’re biting off more than we can chew, so no big television show this year. Now we’re sort of figuring out the pieces of how that actually works and who would be on that jury.
Jennifer Dettman goes on to mention that Canada is new to the Eurovision Song Contest and has much to learn and not much time to do it. Dettman has also highlighted that both television and music experts from CBC·/Radio Canada and the Canadian music industry will be consulted to draw out the shortlist of the potential Canadian Eurovision acts.
The Canadian national broadcaster islooking for people with a big digital footprint, who are already comfortable on stage, have no problem belting it out and, ideally, already have a big fanbase in Europe (per Eurovision rules, you can’t vote for your own country).
Hence established artists are more than likely to be shortlisted for Canada’s debut at the ESC.
