As preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria, gather pace, a charming proposal for the official mascot has emerged. The Burgas Zoo has put forward Kapi the capybara, suggesting the calm and friendly animal could be the perfect symbol for the international music event. This comes amidst other creative suggestions as the host city looks to embrace its unique identity for the contest.
Burgas embraces Eurovision 2027 preparations with mascot proposals
The city of Burgas is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, marking Bulgaria’s first time as the host nation. Following DARA’s victory at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, Austria, the Black Sea coastal city was confirmed as the host on August 13, 2026.
Amidst the ongoing preparations, attention is now turning to the official mascot for the contest. The Burgas Zoo has officially put forward its candidate: Kapi the capybara. Representatives from the zoo highlight the capybara’s peaceful and good-natured demeanor, suggesting it perfectly embodies the Eurovision spirit of bringing different countries, cultures, and people together through music.
While Kapi the capybara offers a globally appealing and unique choice, another strong local contender has also been proposed. The Burgas State Puppet Theatre has suggested the ‘Euro-gull‘ as its mascot idea. This proposal aims to connect the contest with one of Burgas’s most iconic symbols – the seagull – representing freedom, colour, and the city’s artistic spirit.
Bulgarian National Television (BNT), the host broadcaster, has indicated that a competition for creative mascot ideas is still to come. This suggests that while these initial proposals are generating excitement, the final decision will likely involve a broader public or expert selection process, ensuring the chosen mascot truly represents both Bulgaria and the essence of Eurovision 2027.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is scheduled to be held at the Arena Burgas in Burgas on 11, 13 and 15 May.
