The State Puppet Theatre in Burgas, Bulgaria, has unveiled an intriguing proposal for the official symbol of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. They suggest a ‘Euro-gull’ to represent the upcoming competition, connecting the popular music competition with one of the most iconic symbols of the seaside city. This imaginative concept adds a unique local flavour to the early discussions surrounding the 2027 contest.

A Coastal Mascot for Europe’s Biggest Stage

Burgas is gearing up to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, following Bulgaria’s victory in the 2026 edition. In an exciting development, the State Puppet Theatre – Burgas has officially presented its vision for a mascot, proposing a character named ‘Euroglarus’ or ‘Euro-gull’.

The ‘Euro-gull’ is an attractive stilt-puppet, already familiar to local audiences from the street performance ‘Burgas Gulls’. The idea and direction for this character come from the theatre’s director, Petar Todorov. The theatre believes that a gull is the perfect mascot for Eurovision and a fitting symbol for Burgas, embodying freedom, colour, and an artistic spirit.

According to the theatre, the gull is an inseparable part of Burgas’s identity and everyday life, with its distinctive ‘musical’ voice being a familiar sound and a true sonic trademark of the city. The proposal has already garnered international attention, with photos of ‘Euroglarus’ appearing on various platforms.

The Burgas State Puppet Theatre’s statement reads:

What more suitable mascot for Eurovision and symbol of Burgas than the Burgas gull? And who better can create puppets than the Puppet Theatre – Burgas? Over the years, the song contest has had various mascots, but in our opinion, the most suitable for Burgas is the gull because it is freedom-loving, colorful, artistic, and an inseparable part of the seaside city’s spirit. And its unique ‘musical’ voice is the sound we are all used to in Burgas – a part of our daily life and a true sonic trademark of the city,

This initiative highlights the city’s commitment to showcasing its unique cultural identity on the international stage, welcoming Eurovision fans from across Europe to experience the seaside charm of Burgas.

Will Euro-Segull follow the footsteps of AURI and LUMO and become the official Eurovision 2027 mascot?
