Bulgaria’s bid for Eurovision 2027 takes shape
The inspection by EBU representatives signals a significant step forward for Bulgaria’s potential bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. The National Palace of Culture (NDK), a prominent multi-purpose conference and exhibition centre located in the heart of Sofia, is being considered as a potential venue to host the Eurovision Village and Turquoise Carpet.
Minister of Culture Evtim Miloshev confirmed the visit, highlighting the country’s interest in bringing the contest to Bulgarian soil. The EBU’s assessment of potential host venues involves rigorous criteria, including technical capabilities, infrastructure, security, and logistical considerations.
The EBU’s officials visited Sofia today and will be travelling to Burgas next in order to inspect the venues, locations and infraustructure of the candidate cities. They will be also evaluating each city’s Eurovision hosting bid meticulously.
Minister of Culture Evtim Miloshev graced BTV’s ‘This Morning’ show where he shed more light on the EBU’s officials visit to Sofia:
The state has taken the first two very important steps. This body has been created to support the organization at the ministerial level. 20 million euros have been transferred to the Ministry of Culture for Eurovision. Only Sofia and Burgas remain. Regarding Sofia’s candidacy, representatives of the EBU were on a tour of the National Palace of Culture. They will be also going to Burgas.
Bulgaria is set to host Eurovision 2027 following Dara’s historic victory with ‘Bangaranga’ at Eurovision 2026. The host city race has now narrowed down to Sofia and Burgas, with Plovdiv and Varna having been eliminated from the process. The final decision on the host city is expected by the end of July.
