The Bulgarian government has officially established an organising committee dedicated to the preparation and holding of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. This significant announcement comes from the government press service on Friday, marking a crucial step in Bulgaria’s journey as the next host nation.

Following Bulgaria’s historic victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with Dara’s captivating performance of ‘Bangaranga’, the nation is now gearing up to host the prestigious event for the very first time. In a move underscoring the country’s commitment, the Bulgarian Cabinet has formally established an organising committee to oversee all preparations for Eurovision 2027.

A Dedicated Committee for a Landmark Event

The government press service confirmed on Friday that the newly formed committee’s primary role will be to run and coordinate the extensive preparations required for the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria. This involves a wide array of tasks, from logistical planning and infrastructure development to ensuring a memorable cultural experience for delegations and fans alike.

The establishment of such a high-level committee highlights the national importance placed on hosting Eurovision. It signifies a concerted effort to bring together various governmental bodies and stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of the event, adhering to the stringent guidelines set by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov has been appointed to chair this crucial committee. The extensive list of members highlights the cross-governmental effort involved in staging such a large-scale international event. It includes the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Deputy Prime Minister responsible for the management of European funds, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Health, Culture, Youth and Sports, and Tourism. Furthermore, the Director General of Bulgarian National Television (BNT), the host broadcaster, will also be a key member.

Should the need arise, the committee’s chair has the authority to invite representatives from other state bodies, local government entities, and various organisations relevant to the competition’s preparation and execution.

The committee’s mandate is broad, encompassing effective interaction between all competent institutions and stakeholders. Its responsibilities include proposing measures and coordinating the implementation of tasks related to the selection and preparation of the competition venue, financial provision, security and public order, infrastructure development, accompanying events, information and communication activities, and the international representation of Bulgaria.

A significant deadline for the newly formed committee is June 30, 2026, by which time they are expected to prepare a comprehensive action plan. This plan will then be submitted to the Council of Ministers for consideration and adoption, ensuring a structured approach to the monumental task of hosting Eurovision 2027

Bulgaria’s Eurovision Journey Continues

The excitement in Bulgaria is palpable, with several major cities already expressing keen interest in becoming the host city for Eurovision 2027. Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, and Varna have all stated  their interest in hosting Eurovision 2027, showcasing the country’s enthusiasm and capacity to welcome Europe’s biggest music show. The final decision on the host city will be made by Bulgarian National Television (BNT) in coordination with the EBU, with requirements expected to be announced soon.

This organising committee will play a vital role in coordinating bids from these cities, evaluating their facilities, transport links, hotel capacity, and overall vision for the contest. Bulgaria is poised to deliver an exceptional Eurovision experience, building on the momentum of their recent triumph.
