As Finland eagerly awaits the outcome of Eurovision 2026, attention is already turning to a potential hosting bid for 2027. Should Finland emerge victorious, a new competition is set to begin, with two of the nation’s largest cities, Helsinki and Tampere, reportedly vying for the honour of hosting the prestigious song contest.

The Race for Eurovision 2027

Finnish broadcaster Yle reports that both Helsinki and Tampere are already expressing keen interest in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, should Finland win the ongoing 2026 edition. The prospect of bringing the contest back to Finland has sparked enthusiasm in both major cities, with discussions reportedly underway regarding potential venues and logistical preparations.

Helsinki, the nation’s capital, previously hosted the contest in 2007 following Lordi’s historic victory. The city boasts the experience and infrastructure, with venues like the Helsinki Halli (formerly Hartwall Arena) and the Messukeskus Expo and Convention Centre being potential options for the large-scale event. Helsinki’s established international connections and extensive hotel capacity would undoubtedly be strong assets in any bid.

Meanwhile, Tampere presents a compelling modern alternative. The city has recently opened the state-of-the-art Nokia Arena, a multi-purpose indoor arena completed in 2021, which has already successfully hosted major international sporting and entertainment events. Tampere’s fresh appeal and advanced facilities could offer a contemporary setting for Eurovision, showcasing Finland’s innovative spirit.

Anticipation Builds Across Finland

The anticipation for a potential Finnish victory in Eurovision 2026 is palpable, and the discussion around hosting has only added to the excitement. Figures such as musician Pete Parkkonen and violinist Linda Lampenius are among those reportedly following the developments closely, highlighting the cultural significance of Eurovision in Finland. While the focus remains on the current contest, the prospect of an internal competition between Helsinki and Tampere for the 2027 hosting rights adds an intriguing layer to Finland’s Eurovision journey.

Finland is currently the bookies’ hot favourite to win Eurovision 2026 in Vienna.

Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkonnen will represent Finland at Eurovision 2026 with their entry ‘Liekinheitin’.
