This came as a surprise! RÚV, the Icelandic national broadcaster has confirmed that last year’s runner-up Eleni Foureira is going to appear as guest at the final of their national selection event Söngvakeppnin!

Fuego… in the land of ice!

From concert to concert, from country to country, and so on… Undoubtedly, she’s been enjoying an enviable music career around Europe and beyond, following her successful Eurovision participation. Now it’s time for Eleni Foureira to travel to the northernmost capital of the world, Reykjavik, in order to appear on stage shortly before the nomination of this year’s Icelandic hopeful. This is going to be her second performance at a 2019 national selection event, after being a guest at Spain’s Eurovision Gala on 20 January.

Eleni will be appearing at the event’s Grand Final on 2 March. This will be the first time for a Cypriot Eurovision entrant to perform at Iceland’s national final, as well as one of the few times that the show is featured by a special guest from a non-Nordic country. Last year, the final’s interval acts were the Swedish 2017 hopeful Robin Bengtsson and the 2013 Eurovision winner Emmelie de Forest.

A couple of days back, the broadcaster announced the 10 participating acts of Söngvakeppnin 2019. Get to know them! In addition, you may buy your tickets from tix.is.

Eleni Foureira at Eurovision 2018

The popular Greek artist Eleni Foureira was internally selected by the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, with the dance pop song Fuego, penned by the highly-acclaimed Swedish-Greek composer Alex Papaconstantinou and his team, consisting of Geraldo SandellViktor SvenssonAnderz Wrethov and Didrick.

Following the rehearsals’ beginning in Lisbon, Eleni had been highly tipped as the hot favourite for the victory at the Grand Final, bringing Cyprus closer than ever to their first Eurovision trophy. Eventually, after progessing to the final, she came 2nd with a total of 436 points. This is the best result for the island of Aphrodite in the contest, since their debut in 1981.

The 64th Eurovision Song Contest will be taking place on 14, 16 and 18 May at the EXPO Convention Center in Tel Aviv, Israel.
