Israel: KAN opens submission window for Eurovision 2019

Who will succeed Netta and follow her footsteps in Tel Aviv? We will find out in a few weeks, but what about the song? KAN, the Israeli national broadcaster, has opened the submission window for composers to submit their songs for the 2019 Israeli national final.

KAN has published the rules and regulations for its upcoming national final. The song submission window is open as of today until 17 February 2019. You can find more information here and here.

Composers wishing to apply must comply with the following requirements:

  • Must be Israeli nationals
  • Must be Members of ACUM
  • Songs must not be published before or composed in any other language

Composers can send in their songs to KAN via the following email address: [email protected].

When the submission period concludes, a  special committee will be responsible to deliberate the song that will represent Israel  the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv. The 2019 Israeli entry will be chosen on 24 February  and will be officially released during the month of March.

The 2019 Israeli Eurovision representative will be the winner of The Next Star Israel 2019, the grand final of the show is scheduled to be held by mid February.

 

About the Israeli national selection

The 2019 Israeli national selection is  co-organized and produced by KAN and Channel Keshet 12.  The talent show will determine the 2019 Israeli Eurovision representative for the fifth consecutive year having deliberated the Israeli hopefuls in 2015 (Nadav Guedj), 2016 (Hovi Star), 2017 (Imri Ziv) and 2018 (Netta).

The 2019 edition of HaKokhav HaBa aka The Next Star Israel is hosted by Rotem Sela and Assi Assar.

Israel in Eurovision

Israel debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 with Ilanit and has won the competition four times (1978, 1979, 1998 and 2018). The country has hosted the competition twice in Jerusalem (1979, 1999).

In 2018 Netta was crowned the winner of The Next Star and went on to represent Israel at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with her epic entry Toy. Netta walked away with the coveted Eurovision trophy in Portugal giving her homeland its 4th Eurovision victory.

Thanks to Netta Israel will be hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time in ESC history. The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at the EXPO Tel Aviv in Tel Aviv on 14, 16 and 18 May.
