Australia: SBS confirms participation in Eurovision 2019

SBS, the Australian national broadcaster, has confirmed to ESCToday that Australia will participate at the forthcoming 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Israel.

Good day Australia, good evening Europe this is Sydney calling! Europe hold your horses as the Aussies are heading to Israel for Eurovision! Thus Australia joins the list of countries who have confirmed their intention to partake at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv.

The Aussies will be competing in the Eurovision Song Contest for the fifth consecutive time. This time the Aussies are going full steam in order to select their Eurovision hopeful by opting for a national final in orde to determine their Eurovision representative.

Australia in Eurovision

Australia was invited to compete at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, as a one off participation but the country embraced the competition with such enthusiasm that they have been invited to retun every year since.

The Aussies achieved their best result in the contest in 2016 when Dami Im nearly walked away with the Grand Prix with her entry Sound of silence, placing 2nd in Stockholm.

Our neighbours down under have enjoyed much succcess in the competition having achieved three top 10 placings in their four year Eurovision history.

In 2018 SBS selected Jessica Mauboy via an internal selection in order to fly the Australian flag at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with her entry We got love. Despite an energetic performance Australia placed 20th in the Grand Final in Portugal.
