Dutch national broadcaster, AVROTROS, has confirmed to ESCToday that the Netherlands will participate at the forthcoming 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Israel.

Thus Netherlands joins the list of countries who have so far confirmed their intentiion to compete at the upcoming Eurovision edition in Israel.

It is more than likely that the Netherlands will select the 2019 Dutch Eurovision representative and entry via an internal selection, as has been the case in recent years. The Dutch broadcaster  is yet to reveal the mechanism it will use in order to select its Eurovision representaive for Israel and is expected to unveil its plan of action for Eurovision 2019 in due course.

The Netherlands in Eurovision

The Netherlands debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 in Lugano, and was one of the founder members of Europe’s favourite television show. The Dutch have won the competition four times: 1957, 1959, 1969 and 1975.

The country has had the honour of hosting the event on four occasions: 1958, 1970, 1976, 1980.

In 2018 the Netherlands opted for an internal selection and selected Waylon to defend the Dutch colours at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with his entry Outlaw in ‘Em .

Waylon had the honour to represent the Netherlands for the second time, achieving an 18th placing in the Grand Final.
