The Melfest rumour mill is in overdrive as more potential Swedish national selection artists for Eurovision 2018 come to light today in the country’s national press.

With the likes of Samir & Viktor and Méndez looking set to compete in Melodifestivalen 2018, more names have hit the spotlight this evening as the participant rumours continue for the forthcoming Swedish national selection.

Right song for Alcazar could see return

According to sources at Aftonbladet, former Melfest participants Alcazar are looking to compete in next year’s national selection for Eurovision 2018, but there’s a catch.

The disco-trio are currently searching for the right song for Melodifestivalen in order to compete for the Eurovision right once again, however with one song reportedly being rejected by the group already, the search for the perfect entry continues.

Alcazar last tried to represent Sweden at Eurovision in 2014 with Blame it on the disco

Having previously tried to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest on 5 (!!) separate occasions, could Alcazar’s sixth potential participation bring them the victory they’ve long been looking for?

Three new names join the list

Alongside Alcazar, Aftonbladet has also listed 3 further artists who are reportedly ready to compete in next year’s competition, all of which would be competing in the event for the very first time!

Gothenburg-born singer-songwriter Ida Redig is the first new name to feature in the latest set of rumours. The electro-pop singer, who’s also a talented multi-musician, has been in the music scene since 2009 and is “happy to compete in Melodifestivalen next year”.

Former athlete turned singer-songwriter, John Lundvik, is another artist recently joining the rumour mill. Having composed songs for former Melfest participants Anton Ewald and Sanna Nielsen, one of Lundvik’s biggest musical achievements came in 2010 when he composed the song When you tell the world you’re mine for the Victoria, the Crown Princess of Sweden’s wedding in 2010.

Lundvik’s composition was performed at the royal wedding by Björn Skifs and Agnes

The talented songwriter is now looking to compete in next year’s Melodifestivalen event, having already contemplated competing in last year’s edition.

The final name on the list today is YouTube sensation Olivia Eliasson, who was discovered online following her upload of a cover of Anton Ewald’s former Melfest entry, Begging. The artist has since signed to the same record label at Ewald and is reportedly looking ahead to Melodifestivalen 2018.

SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster, is expected to release the full list of Melodifestivalen 2018 participants in the coming weeks.

Which of the rumoured artists interest you the most so far? And which other performers would you add to the list?
