Greece: ERT confirms participation in Eurovision 2018

ERT, the Greek national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Greece will participate at the forthcoming 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

The Greek broadcaster is yet to determine the mechanism it will use to select its Eurovision act and hopeful for Lisbon. ERT will dislcose more details regarding its Eurovision 2018 project and plans in due course.

In 2017 Greece went internal and selected Demy to fly the Greek flag in Kyiv with the backing of  Fokas Evagelinos and Dimitris Kontopoulos. Demy made her country proud with the grandiose staging of her Eurovision entry. Despite an extraordinary performance she achieved a 19th placing in the Grand Final.

Greece debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and has won the event in 2005 with Helena Paparizou‘s My number one, thus bringing the contest for the very first time on Greek soil in 2006.

Eurovision 2018

The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 8, 10 and 12 May in Lisbon, Portugal.

The deadline for broadcasters to officially apply for Eurovision 2018 concludes by mid September. Hereafter, countries have a grace period to confirm their participation or withdraw their application without a penalty.

The final list of the 2018 Eurovision participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU later during the year.
