As with every year, last night saw Greek TV station Alpha TV air the biggest annual music event in Greece, the MAD Video Music Awards. The show has been organized every year since 2004 by the Greek music TV station MAD TV. This year, the event took place on 27 June at the Tae Kwo Do court in Palaio Faliro, Athens.

The show every year sees glorious performances by the most well-known Greek artists. Amongst them, many Eurostars appeared on stage and were awarded. ESCToday had covered – right after the official announcement from MAD TV – the nominated Eurostars for 2017.

We were there too!

The ESCToday team was there in Athens to view the event on the night, which saw performances from several singers as well as seeing the artists being awarded.

To begin with, the 2017 Greek representative Demy appeared twice on stage; once to perform her brand new single M’ ekdikeise (You’re rebuking me) and once to perform a remix of the smash hit by Ed Sheeran Shape of you, along with one the most successful Greek singers Antonis Remos, titled Shape of Lene. She also received the award of the Video of the Year for the music video for the 2017 Greek entry This is love.

Here you can enjoy both of Demy’s performances:

Demy made the following statements after receiving the award:

Thank you everyone. With your inexorable love all these years, I can do what I love, without trying to change for anyone. The important thing is to try and evolve yourself.

However, she was not the only 2017 Eurovision participant to perform live at the show. One of the most remarkable guests of the 2017 event was the Bulgarian entrant Kristian Kostov, who performed his Eurovision entry Beautiful mess in a MAD VMA ’17 version with hip hop singer SNIK.

The past participants

When it comes to past participants, the 2005 Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou made 3 appearances on stage – more than any other performing artist – and received the award of Best Female Modern.

Alongside Tamta (2007 Greek national final participant), she released and performed the duet song Tora I pote (Now or never), the Greek version of the Italian song Ora o mai piú from the 2016 Sanremo festival.

Furthermore, she performed in English her new single Haide and her brand new song An me deis na klaio (If you see me crying), with the young musician and singer Anastasios Rammos.

All 3 performances by Helena are uploaded on her official VEVO account and can be watched here:

Apart from performing together with Helena Paparizou, Tamta also performed her new single by Dimitris Kontopoulos, Ilious kai thalasses (Suns and seas) in a special remix for the show.

The very popular and beloved singer of the Greek audience Eleni Foureira (Greek national final 2010 participant with Manos Pyrovolakis) performed a new version of the 2000 hit To kati by the 1993 Greek entrant Katy Garbi.

The singer was also twice awarded; once as the Best Dance Video for the music video of the song Ti koitas (Where are you looking at) and once as Best Video with a Cause for her video clip for the song De sou chrostao agapi (Ι don’t owe you love).

The boyband MELISSES (Greek national final 2010 participants) gave another impressive performance of their big ballad hit To kyma (The wave), in collaboration with Mpampis Stokas, the leader vocalist of the rock band Pyx Lax. They were also given two awards; the Best Ballad Video for To kyma as well as being proclaimed as the Best Band.

We have to say that it was a well-organized and really enjoyable show. We’re looking forward to next year’s 15th edition of MAD Video Music Awards!
