Denmark: Eurovision entrant chosen

Tonight, Denmark has held Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2009, the national final for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. After three rounds of voting, it was decided that Brinck will represent the country in 2009 with the song Believe again.

The winner was chosen in three rounds of voting. In the first round, all ten songs were presented and SMS voting and a jury (50% each) sent the following four songs to the next round:

  • SukkerchokDet' det
  • Hera BjörkSomeday
  • Brinck Believe again
  • Johnny DeluxeSinsssyg

In the second round, the songs were performed in pairs – Sukkerchok vs. Hera Björk and Brinck vs. Johnny Deluxe. One song of each pair qualified through SMS voting. The participants in the super final were:

  • Hera BjörkSomeday
  • Brinck Believe again

It was then decided by SMS voting that Brinck will go to Moscow with the song Believe again. The song is written by 1997 Eurovison Song Contest host Ronan Keating, Lars Halvor Jensen, Martin Larssonand will be the 38th Danish entry in the competition.

The esctoday.com poll voters widely agreed with th SMS voters. Brinck had finished third in the poll with 13.7% and won the show. Hera Björk had one the poll (29.4%) and finished second while Trine Jepsen finished second in the poll (14.7%) and was eliminated after the first round.

In 2008, Denmark was represented by Simon Mathew, who finished third in the second semi final and 15th in the final with All night long. In 2009, the country will take part in the second semi final on 14th May.
