Miss Universe Austria 2015, Amina Dagi, payed a striking tribute to the Austrian winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Denmark, Conchita Wurst, at the Miss Universe Pageant 2015.

20-year young Amina Dagi, hailing from Dagestan but living in Austria from age eight after her family had to flee from their home country, represented Austria at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. For the National Dress-category, Amina decided to salute one of Austria’s most striking personalities: Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst, the alter ego of drag-artist Thomas Neuwirth. After winning Eurovision, Conchita has become a spokeswoman for equality and human rights, and Amina Dagi wishes to follow in her footsteps as an ambassador of tolerance. During the pageant, Amina transformed into Conchita Wurst’s image, including the trademark beard, wearing a dress created by Swedish designer Aviad Arik Herman. The designer said:

The meaningful costume brings the urgent message, and stands for #courage, #tolerance, #acceptance, #equality & being #unstoppable!

Conchita Wurst represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and eventually won the contest with her song Rise Like A Phoenix, earning a total of 290 points.
