NRK, the Norwegian national broadcaster has revealed that around 1,000 entries have been submitted for the upcoming Norwegian Eurovision national final- Melodi Grand Prix 2016.
A special committee appointed by NRK consisting of Pia Skevik, Marie Komissar, Jan Fredrik Karlsen and Stig Karlsen will evaluate all received entries and select a total of 10 songs/acts for the 2016 Norwegian national final- Melodi Grand Prix. One of these lucky 10 songs will go on to represent Norway at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
NRK is yet to announce the dates and venue for MGP 2016. More information on the 2016 Norwegian national final will be disclosed in due course.
In 2015 Norway opted for its annual Eurovision national selection MGP in order to select its Eurovision entry and act for Vienna.
Mørland & Debrah Scarlett won the 2015 Norwegian national final and were awarded the golden ticket to represent Norway at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with their entry Monster like me. Norway achieved an honorable 8th placing in the grand finale in Vienna.
Norway debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 and has won the competition thrice in 1985 with Bobbysocks, in 1995 with Secret Garden and in 2009 with Alexander Rybak. The country has hosted the event 3 times, twice in Oslo (1996,2010) and once in Bergen (1986).
