The preparations for Sweden’s national selection for Eurovision 2016 are in high speed. It has been 15 years since the current Melodifestivalen mechanism of four semifinals, one second chance round and a grand final was introduced. To celebrate that, SVT plans invite memorable Melodifestivalen starts, like Sarah Dawn Finer to help hosting the shows. They all will accompany the big host of Melodifestivalen 2016, that the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports to be Gina Dirawi.

“The viewers need a safe point, something that will not change in every show but a host that the viewers will recognise through the whole tour”, says a source in respond to why the various Melodifestivalen starts will only accompany a host and won’t host the show by themselves.

It is not the first time that we’ll see Gina on the Melodifestivalen stage, as she co-hosted the show twice: in 2012 with Helena Bergström and Sarah Dawn Finer, and in 2013 with Danny Saucedo. She was also tipped as a possible co-host with Måns Zelmerlöw for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, however hosting Melodifestivalen will probably leave the Eurovision job to someone else.

Watch Gina & Danny perform Danny’s Melodifestivalen 2011 entry In the club in Melodifestivalen 2013:

No contracts were written and the specific people that will man the roles of the main host and its sidekicks are unknown yet. “Nothing is clear”, says Lili Assefa, SVT’s spokesperson for Melodifestivalen.
