Crumbland is one of the entrants chosen by YLE and Finnish record companies to compete in the Euroviisut 2008, the national selection in Finland. They will be in the first of three semi finals next Friday night in Tampere with their song Pleasure. Predicted to be outsiders, some say they could be the dark horse to surprise Teräsbetoni, Crystal Snow and Kristian Meurman, the biggest favourites in this pre-Euroviisut era.
“Our song is very dynamic. It is such a good track we could actually win. Or at least almost. We are not scared, we are in this 100% sure of it and if we win we will give our best shot in Belgrade” says Jontte Genberg, the lead singer and leader of the band that was formed 11 years ago. Its music is very grunge, taking example from the Seattle sound. “Our music is loaded with sentiments of young angry men!”
When YLE approached them asking to be in Euroviisut 2008 the decision wasn’t easy. The band is made of four men: Jontte Genberg (vocals, guitar), Antti Pylkkänen (bass), Pexi Parviainen (drums) and Teemu Seppälä (guitar, backing vocals). “We had heavy discussion inside the band over the 24 hours YLE gave us to say yes or no. But then we decided we have nothing to lose. We are not afraid to lose our rock credibility. One gig in Euroviisut won’t change it, you will see when you see us on stage next Friday!”
Crumbland released their debut album Should I tell you? last summer and has been touring a lot abroad, including Germany and India, not yet such a common place to go for international rock bands. They were the guest stars in a local Campus Rock Idol semi final to show locals how to rock. “The first time we spent there almost two weeks and had time for a little holidaying, too. The second time was a very hectic less than a week with performances and PR". They have also toured with Korn and Pain this year.
The first Finnish Euroviisut 2008 semi final on Friday 8 at 20.00 CET with Crumbland, Hanna Marsh, Kari Tapio and Movetron. Jaana Pelkonen, the hostess of the Eurovision song contest 2007 in Helsinki presents the show with Peltsi Peltola.
