Sweden’s superstar Sanna Nielsen is fully exploring her talents this year. After successfully hosting Melodifestivalen 2015, the singer is about to try something new in her career. She will travel to the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in May as the commentator for SVT, the Swedish broadcaster.

Sanna Nielsen has always been a big fan of the Eurovision Song Contest, participating in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish national final, seven times with hopes to represent her country in the big international contest one day. She came close in 2008 with a second place for her song Empty room, but in 2014 she finally made it with Undo, representing Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen.

Her more than respectable third place in the Eurovision Song Contest, gained her a new status in her home country. She was asked to host Melodifestivalen 2015 and did this gracefully, receiving positive feedback from the Swedish public. Now Sanna is preparing herself to be the commentator in this years contest. Of course, her participation last year, gained her a lot of knowledge about how the contest works and she will definitely use this in her advantage on her new job.

Christer Björkman, head of Melodifestivalen, has a lot of faith in Sanna. “We have seen her transformation from a schlager singer to an allround performer. We have been a part of it so it felt like a natural thing to do, to ask her to be the commentator. She has all knowledge about how it feels to stand on that stage and it is a fun experience for her to see it from the other side”, he explained. Sanna Nielsen will not be alone in the studio in Vienna. She will be joined by Edward af Sillén, the commentator who has been doing the Swedish comments during the show for years now.
