France 2, the French national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that France  will participate at the forthcoming 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in May next year.

France 2 has also confirmed to ESCToday.com that as of 2015 it  will take over the Eurovision Song Contest from France 3 as we had previously reported last week. France 2 will be in charge of airing the contest from next year onwards and selecting the 2015 French Eurovision entry and representative.

The Eurovision Song Contest will return to France 2, the channel which was in charge of the Eurovision Song Contest in the 1980′s and 1990′s. The poor results afflicting France in the competiton in the last 3 years could have led the French national broadcaster to make this decision. It seems like the French broadcaster would like to promote the Eurovision Song Contest and improve France’s image and results at the Eurovision Song Contest  with this new approach.

The method and mechanism France will use to select its 2o15 Eurovision entry and representative is yet to be determined and finalized. The French broadcaster will be disclosing more details regarding the 2015 French Eurovision project in due course.

France is the 19th to confirm its intention to participate at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest. France  joins  Greece,  FYR Macedonia, Austria, Cyprus, Malta, Switzerland, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Finland, The Netherlands, Lithuania, Belgium, Portugal and Estonia  in the list of countries which will join the 2015 Eurovision party in Austria next year .  Whilst Montenegro, Latvia and Belarus have stated that they are  most likely to enter the competition next year.

In 2014 France opted for a national final to select its Eurovision entry. Twin Twin won the golden ticket to Copenhagen with their entry Moustache. Despite a fun loving performance the country came last with 2 points.

France is one of the founder countries of the Eurovision Song Contest, having debuted in the very first contest in 1956. The French nation has won the event 5 times: 1958, 1960, 1962, 1969, 1977. France has hosted the Eurovision the contest on 3 occasions : Cannes (1959,1961) and Paris (1978).

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 19, 21, 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle, in Vienna.
