Dutch artist Alain Clark performed during the Uitmarkt 2014, the official opening of the Dutch cultural season, this year held from 29 to 31 of August, traditionally in Amsterdam.
During the Uitmarkt, Alain Clark talked to the website VIPS TV about his career, his forthcoming tour, and also replied to the rumours in the Dutch press that he will be The Netherlands’ representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna.
Alain Clark clarified that due to an article in a Dutch newspaper, it seemed that he was already the definite candidate. Clark explaines that although he was unofficially asked if he would be interested in participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, there had been no official contact with broadcaster AvroTros. However, Clark would like to partake in Eurovision, and thus official negotiations with broadcaster AvroTros will start soon. This does still not mean that Alain Clark will be the official candidate, but it indicates that both artist and broadcaster are seriously considering the possibility. As Clark says: “There’s definitely a chance!”
Alain Clark has already some ideas about what kind of song and performance he would like to deliver on the Eurovision stage, in case he will be chosen to represent his country: “I would like to do a song that’s appealing and that has an emotional layer, it can be either happy or very dramatic. But on such a big, beautiful stage one really has a chance of showcasing a song, and I’d like to take that opportunity”.
Although Alain Clark sees himself as fitting in the row of artists like Anouk, Ilse DeLange and Waylon, who, like him, are big names in the Dutch music industry, he also emphasizes that success in Eurovision is not a matter of national fame. It might just as well come from an unknown, upcoming artist who manages to move the audience with a beautiful, emotional song.
