Russia: National final date change

Last September, Rossija 1, the Russian national broadcaster announced the method and mechanism for the 2014 Russian national final which was set to take place on 31 December. Due to the high interest of the participating acts, the broadcaster has decided to extend the submission deadline until 28 February hence postponing the national final  to March, with the date yet to be confirmed.

The Russian broadcaster updated its Eurovision national selection webpage today. Thus  revealing that it has extended the deadline for participants and artists to submit their entrties. Due to the unexpected high number of applications aiming to represent Russia in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, the broadcaster has decided to extend the deadline until the 28 February.

The selection show that will determine the Rusian participant in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest Who? will take place in March; the final date is yet to be announced. The winner and the next Russian representative in Copenhagen, will be selected by 100% televoting.

Russia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Youdiph’s Vechni stranik, and has won the event once in  2008 with Dima Bilan’s Believe, and hosted Europe’s favourite television show in 2009 on home soil in Moscow.

In 2013 Russian national broadcaster Channel 1 Russia selected Dina Garipova to represent Russia  at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest via an internal selection. Dina achieved an honorable 5th placing with her entry What If.
