RTP1, the first channel of the public Portuguese broadcaster RTP, transmitted the 2005 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, last night. The commentator was Eládio Clímaco.
Throughout the show, Eládio Clímaco mentioned the interest of RTP to take part at the 4th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, to take place in Bucharest, Romania. Thus, it was highlighted that the Portuguese children aged between 8 and 15 are free to apply for representing Portugal in 2006. Children are supposed to sing and dance, but no further details were given.
Therefore, RTP seems to be commited to this new challenge, whereas the senior version lost a lot of interest among the Portuguese viewers.
