We got news from Iceland! As their 2019 national selection event Söngvakeppnin is well and truly underway, we have found out tonight’s qualifiers and, therefore, the complete line up for the Grand Final, which is all set to take place on 2 March!
Tonight’s second semi-final, hosted by Fannar Sveinsson and Benedikt Valsson, saw another set of 5 acts which battled it out for a place in the event’s final. As with the first semi-final evening, the contestants were obliged to perform their songs in Icelandic. However, in the Grand Final, the language of each competing act will be as intended for Eurovision in May.
Both the public and a national jury had a say on the results and decided to send the following participants to the final:
- Friðrik Ómar – Hvað ef ég get ekki elskað? / What if I can’t have love?
- Tara Mobee – Betri án þín / Fighting for love
Besides the two qualifying acts above, a wildcard was awarded to Kristina Skoubo Bærendsen – Ég á mig sjálf / Mama said from the first semi-final, in order to secure a spot in the final of the island’s national selection. Thus, we are going to witness 5 participants, all thrown into battle for the coveted Eurovision ticket.
Hence, these two qualifiers will be joining Hatari and Hera Björk in the final, where only one will be honoured to make this long journey to Israel.
Söngvakeppnin 2019 will be returning on Saturday 2 March, ready to crown Iceland’s Eurovision act for Tel Aviv!
