RÚV, the Icelandic national broadcaster has confirmed the final versions of the 6 entries set to compete in the final of Söngvakeppnin 2016 this Saturday.
Over the last 2 weeks, 12 Icelandic acts have been bidding for the right to represent their country at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest this coming May. Six acts remain in the contest with the Icelandic representative being decided this weekend. Although a wildcard act was originally going to be selected by national broadcaster from one of the semi-finals, RÚV reportedly decided to opt against it.
During the semi-final stage of the national selection, each of the 12 competing acts were required to perform their bidding entries in the Icelandic language, an essential rule of the Söngvakeppnin selection. However in the final of the selection, finalists are then required to perform their entries in the language they wish to perform in should they be selected to represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Out of the 6 competing finalists, 5 artists will perform their entries in the English language whilst the final remaining act will compete in the national language of Icelandic. The official running order of the Söngvakeppnin final is as follows:
- Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir – Hear them calling
- Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir & Hjörtur Traustason – I promised you then
- Karlotta Sigurðardóttir – Eye of the storm
- Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir & Guðmundur Snorri Sigurðarson – Ready to break free
- Elísabet Ormslev – Á ný
- Alda Dís Arnardóttir – Now
The final versions of the bidding entries can be found on the official RÚV website. Note that whilst Greta will be performing her entry in English at the final, a studio version has yet to be published.
The Söngvakeppnin 2016 final will take place this Saturday on the 20 February. The show will air on RÚV at 20:00 local time (21:00 CET).
