TVE, the Spanish national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Spain will participate at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm next year.

Spain is the 23rd country to confirm its participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest scheduled to be held on 10, 12, 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.

Countries wishing to compete at next year’s Eurovision extravaganza in Stockholm have until 15 September to submit their respective applications to the EBU, hereafter they have a grace period until 10 October to decide if they are to stay or not in the competition without facing a financial penalty.

TVE is yet to reveal the format and mechanism it will use to select the 2016 Spanish Eurovision entry for Stockholm. More details will be released in due course.

Spain selected its Eurovision act and entry in 2015 via an internal selection. Edurne represented Spain at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with her entry Amanecer. Despite an extraordinary performance Spain placed 21st in the grand final in Vienna.

Spain debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 with Conchita Bautista and has won the competition twice in 1968 with Massiel and in 1969 with Salome.
