A week has passed since the Grand Final of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, which was successfully hosted by RTP, the Portuguese national broadcaster. The show was a massive success in Portugal with circa 1.5 million viewers tuning in to watch the show.

Approximately 1,547,000 viewers watched the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest on RTP1 from the beginning to the end of the show.

This year’s edition, held in Lisbon, set the record for the last ten years, with an audience of 16 rating points and a market share of 36.4% .

Not even the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest last May, with the victory of  Salvador Sobral, garnered such an high audience as has been the case this year. 2018 saw an increase of  almost 100,000 people in comparison to 2017. Last year 1,453,000 viewers tuned in to RTP 1 to see Portugal’s epic victory with 31% of market share.

The best minute of the show was at 11:39 BST, with more than half of the Portuguese tv viewers glued to RTP 1 (19.6 rating and 50.2% market share)

Salvador Sobral and Caetano Veloso’s rendition of the 2018 Eurovision winning entry Amar Pelos Dois was another epic moment for the national broadcaster.

1, 811,000 people witnessed Salvador Sobral’s return, representing a 43% of the market share. Overall RTP 1 was the most watched tv channel in Portugal on 12 May, showacasing the preference of the viewers, with 21.7% of the market share.
