Austria: Three prizes for two Eurovision stars

The two Austrian Eurovision winners were bestowed the prize in four categories of the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards last Sunday in its 15th edition as we learn from orf.at.

The Amadeus Austrian Music Awards are the country’s most important music awards and the ceremony is the leading event of the Austrian music scene.

Its 15th edition has recognized the work of the Austrian artists in the past year, and the winner for Austria of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 was no exception. Conchita Wurst won but she did not stop there. And this course of action was acknowledge with three nominations for the Amadeus Music Awards 2015. The ceremony was held on 29 March at the Wiener Volkstheater. And the three nominations were won by Conchita Wurst, who has been bestowed with the awards to the Artist of Year, Video of the Year for Heroes and Song of the Year for her Eurovision winning entry Rise like a phoenix. In the later category she won over the favorites (Spliff by Bilderbuch and Bologna by Wanda).

Conchita Wurst was not the only Eurovision artists who had the appreciation of the Awards jury. The other Austrian Eurovision winner, the late Udo Jürgens, who received the Award to Artist of the Year posthumously as a recognition to a whole career dedicated to music. The prize was taken by the artist’s son, John, and the person who was Udo Jürgens’s manager, Freddy Burger. On stage, Burger honored the memory of the artist thanking him for letting me share almost 40 years of your life.

Four trophies. Three for a newborn star, one as a homage to a star whose light died but who left an unforgettable mark in the Austrian music.

Udo Jürgens and Conchita Wurst are the two winners for Austria of the Eurovision Song Contest. Jürgens won in 1966 with Merci chérie and Wurst in 2014 with Rise like a phoenix.
