L'oiseau et l'enfant, a Christmas song ?

by Dominique Dufaut 59 views

Like in every country, French record stores have their own Christmas section, even if the tradition is less active in France than in English-speaking nations. Among available CDs this year is a compilation of Christmas tunes, performed by Les enfants de noël, which a special version of L'oiseau et l'enfant – the last French winning song so far back in 1977 – can be found on.

This is actually the only track that is not originally connected with Christmas, the other ones being French versions of international classics, such as L'enfant au tambour (Little drummer boy), Promenade en traîneau (Sleigh ride) or J'ai vu maman embrasser le Père Noël (I saw mother kissing Santa Claus). The album also includes the French evergreen Petit Papa Noël and Canadian traditional Season's songs, as the whole project was born in Canada.

The album was recorded back in 2005 byseven children (Francis, David, Justine, Fabrys, Kelly-Ann, Chloé and Hugo), supported by the Ensemble vocal de l'Ecole de Musique Lemaire, in Montreal.
