Dança Joana

A singer and a songwriter, Filipe Gonçalves stepped into the music industry with his participation in the talent show Operação Triunfo. He was the runner-up of the first season of the show in Portugal at a time when the format was at its initiation and at its best in terms of audience.

After that he spent his time voicing cartoons and working as a reporter for the Portuguese broadcaster RTP 1’s show Só Visto!, for which he composed the song Só Visto! está lá.

He toured around Portugal to promote the songs that he composed. In 2007 he launched the album O Elo+Forte with the band Killagees. One of the songs in this record, Hey girl, featured in the Portuguese TV-series Morangos com açúcar.

In June 2010 he published De volta ao tempo do vinil, and in 2014 the fans could enjoy his latest work, Radio 10.

When his participation in the Festival da Canção 2015 was announced, Filipe declared to escportugal.pt that he had declined previous invitations to the Portuguese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. This year he indicated that he accepted because he liked the format and since it is the 50th Festival da Canção, it will leave a footprint in history.

The song he will perform in the Portuguese national selection is Dança Joana. When asked by escportugal.pt who Joana is, he described her as

“that woman that paralyzes us, who makes us stutter. It is Joana because it’s the most ‘singable’ name and because we all have a Joana in our lives. Joana represents the one that leaves us breathless.”

Filipe Gonçalves will be the 5th participant at the second semi-final of the Portuguese national selection. His attire will be designed by Nuno Gama.
