Celine Dion, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, was honoured at the World Music Awards, which took place in Monte Carlo, Monaco, two days ago, November 4th. Dion received the highest accolade, the Legend Award from H.S.H. Prince Albert II.
Last Sunday night at a gala in Monte Carlo, Monaco, the World Music Awards, Celine Dion received the Legend Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Each year the award is presented to a top recording artist in recognition of their global success and outstanding contribution to the music industry. Celine Dion is the second Eurovision Song Contest participant to receive the prestigious award; previously Julio Iglesias, Spain’s representative in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1970, received the award as well.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II, who presented the honour said Dion’s voice “soothes the world's hearts and creates smiles of love across the face of the world”. Celine Dion in her acceptance speech addressed her family saying "Every time I go on stage, it's all of them going on stage with me." She then performed Taking Chances, the first single from her upcoming album which will be released on November 13th.
The 39 year old singer has sold 200 million albums worldwide. She won the Eurovision Song Contest, representing Switzerland, in 1988, with the song Ne partez pas sans moi.
