Mélanie was born on 1 September 1990 in Geneva, Switzerland. She is of Mauritian origin. Daughter of musicians, Réné started singing in private and public events when she was only 7 and writing her first songs when she was 9. She is self-taught and plays the piano by ear. She had an education in music and other arts in the Ateliers Funambule in Nyon, Switzerland from 2003 to 2009.

Mélanie has taken part in festivals and competitions such as the Golden Stag International Music Festival in Brasov, Romania in 2008, and the Georges Gregoriu International Festival in Braila, Romania in 2009. In the latter she had the 1st prize for her song Il chante avec les anges.

In September 2010 she resumed her musical education in the Academy of Contemporary Music in London, United Kingdom, and at the same time she led a band called the Motherfuckers.

In 2012 she entered the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, where she would receive her bachelor’s degree. After this she led a new band called Project Lumiere.

Currently Mélanie performs as a solo vocalist or providing backing vocals to other bands in different venues and events. She is busy with the preparations of a 4-track CD that she expects to release in the first half of 2015.

Mélanie René will participate in the Swiss national selection for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Time to shine. For the occasion she stated that I will just give my very best to cheer and surprise the audience; to give joy with my song, add a little note of harmony and peace in the universe.
