NERIT, the Greek national broadcaster will definately participate at the forthcoming 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. The broadcaster officially joined the EBU today.
NERIT as of today is officially an active member of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union). The decision was taken today at the 73rd EBU’s General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
We’re glad to have Greece joining the 60th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. Their dedication to the biggest music event in the world has been impressive throughout the years– Mr. Jon Ola Sand, EBU’s Executive Supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest has commented.
NERIT was launched last May after the shutdown of the former Greek broadcaster in June 2013. The new Greek public broadcaster had to comply with the rules and regulations of the EBU and meet all the requirements in order to become a full active member.
Greece is now eligible to participate at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna as its EBU membership has been approved. In 2014 Greece was exceptionally allowed to participate in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen after the shutdown of its former national broadcaster ERT in June 2013.
The method and mechanism NERIT will opt for in order to select the 2015 Greek Eurovision entry and act is yet to be determined.
In 2014 Greece opted for a national final in order to select its Eurovision entry and representative. Freaky Fortune feat. RiskyKidd won the golden to Copenhagen with their Rise Up, achieving a 20th place in the grand final.
Greece has enjoyed massive success in the Eurovision Song Contest in the last decade accomplishing excellent results, achieving a total of 10 TOP 10 results since 2001, including a victory in 2005. Greece has competed in the Eurovision final every year since the semifinals system was introduced in 2004.
Greece debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and has won the event in 2005 with Helena Paparizou‘s My number one, thus bringing the contest for the very first time on Greek soil in 2006.
The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 19, 21 and 23 May at the Wiener Statdthalle in Vienna, Austria.
