Belarus: Alexander Rybak to help pick Eurovision Belarusian entry

The 2009 Norwegian Eurovision winner Alexander Rybak will play a key role in picking the 2015 Belarusian entry according to reports on Belarusian news site Belta.

Alexander Rybak gave Norway its 3rd Eurovision victory in 2009 with his entry Fairytale in Moscow. He has gained much fame and name in Russia and Belarus ever since he won the contest back in 2009. The Eurovision winner  is of Belarusian origin.  He will be helping Belarus pick up its Eurovision entry for Eurovision 2015. Alexander is looking for a singer for the Eurovision 2015 national selection competition. The Eurovision 2009 winner posted a video message for Belarusian singing talents online, according to Belarusian news agency Belta.

Auditions will be held in Mogilev, Grodno, Minsk and Brest on 19-22 October. Alexander Rybak is looking for a female singer over 18 who can sing folk. Competitors shall sing live and have two phonograms with one of them being a folklore song. The artist will undertake all the preparations for the national selection competition, from auditions to the writing of a song.

According to the rules of the Eurovision national selection competition, the participants should be citizens of the country they represent, the head of the Eurovision project in Belarus Ms Olga Shlyager has added.

BTRC will be opting for a national selection in order to select its 2015 Eurovision entry. The rules and regulations will be revealed in due course.

In 2014 Belarus opted for a national selection in order to select its Eurovision representative and entry. Teo won the 2014 Belarusian national final and flew the Belarusian flag at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in  Copenhagen with his entry Cheesecake, achieving a 16th place place in the grand final.

Belarus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best result in the contest was in 2007 with Koldun‘s Work your magic, when Belarus placed 6th.

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 19, 21, 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle, in Vienna.
