BNT, the Bulgarian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Bulgaria will not participate at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, after having initially submitted a preliminary application for competing in the contest last month.

Bulgaria has decided to abstain from participation at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest due to the lack of funds for financing the budget.. Hence Bulgaria will be absent from the contest for a 2nd year in a row. Bulgaria joins Turkey, Croatia, Ukraine, Monaco, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Andora and Luxembourg all of whom have confirmed their absence at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

In 2014 Bulgaria withdrew from the competition due to budget cuts and financial reasons.  The last time we saw the country on stage at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2013 when Stoyan and Elitsa represented Bulgaria in Malmo with Samo Shampioni.

Bulgaria debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best placing at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2007, when it achieved a 5th placing with Stoyan and Elitsa’s Voda!

The official list of participating countries at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is expected to be released by the EBU, by early January.

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 19, 21 and 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria.
