Cupcakes, or in its Israeli name, Bananot (Bananas) is a drama/comedy film directed Eytan Fox and written by Eytan Fox and Eli Bijaoui. The film tells the story of five women and one man, all neighbors in the same building in central Israel, who represent Israel in the Universong, an internetional song contest.

The six friends gather every year for watching the Universong. At one of the meetings, the gang decide to cheer up Anat, one of the girls who just got left by her husband. They write a song, called simply Shir le’Anat (A song for Anat) and send it to the committee who’s responsible for choosing the Israeli entry for the upcoming Universong. Soon they find they are selected, and their journey for the upcoming competition in Paris begins.

The film was released in Israel on March 2013 and will be shown in cinemas all around the United Kingdom starting this Friday, April 25th.
