The EBU has announced that a total of 36 countries will compete at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhangen next May. The number of participating countries could rise to 37 if Slovenia confirms its participation in the coming days.
Slovenia has been given a 10 day extension in order to confirm its participation. Croatia, Serbia, Cyprus and Bulgaria have decided to opt out of the competition in 2014. Bosnia Herzegovina initially applied to compete in the contest but withdrew its application. Portugal and Poland will return to the contest this year, whilst Greece will indeed participate in Copenhagen with its new broadcaster NERIT.
Morocco, Monaco, Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Andorra, Luxembourg and Turkey confirmed to esctoday.com that they have no intention on returning to the event in 2014.
