More than 250 songs have been submitted for Romania's Selecţia Naţională Eurovision 2007 as the deadline closed yesterday. The first semi final is to start in less than two weeks time and singers and hosts are to be announced very soon. But what can we expect from Romania's first semi final? Is this to be the year Romania win? With their form really developping latley, Romania have not been out of the top 5 in two years.

"The juries will have a lot of work to do”, says Dan Manoliu, TVR project coordinator for the Eurovision Song Contest, as this year the most entries ever were received for the Romanian National Final. The record of entriesso far was of 160 songs, registered in 2004. All entries will be evaluated in a first stage on 17th Januaryby a jury made up of representatives of the press, radio stations, composers, recording studios and TVR. As a result of this evaluation, only 24 songs out of the 259 submitted by the Romanian composers will enter the semi finals.

Dan Manoliu tells us to 'expect the unexpected' as many styles of music have been submitted such as rock, pop, dance, and latino.

This year as well, TVR will dedicate two days to the semifinals (27th January and 3rd February), withtwelve songs participating in each semi final. The best six songs of each semi final, as chosen by a special jury, but also by the viewers' voting, will enter the final stage. The televoting share is of 50%, while that of the jury voting is also of 50 %.

The grand final, where the twelve songs will participate, will take place on 10th February. The winner will be also decided by televoting (50%) and by jury (50%). The three heats of the contest will be broadcast live on TVR 1.
