IBA, the Israeli national broadcaster has confirmed to esctoday.com that Israel will select its 2014 Eurovision representative via an internal selection, whilst the 2014 Eurovision entry will be chosen via a televised song selection show by the audience.
A special committe consisting of professionals from the music industry will have the responsibility of selecting the 2014 Israeli Eurovision representative via an internal selection. The Israeli candidate will then sing a total of 3 songs during a special televised song selection show scheduled to be held most likely next February. The final will be aired on IBA Channel 1.
Out of the 3 competing entries, 1 of the them will be submitted by the public whilst the other 2 will be submitted by the artist/act.
The 2014 Eurovision entry will be selected solely by the Israeli audience via SMS. More details and information regarding the 2014 Israeli Eurovision project will be released in due course.
In 2013 IBA organized a national selection in order to select its Eurovision entry, the well known Kdam Eurovision. Moran Mazor won the Israeli national final and represented Israel in Malmo with Rak Bishvilo.
Israel debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 with Ilanit and has won the competion 3 times (1977 with Yizhar Cohen and Alpha Beta, 1979 with Gali Atari and Milk & Honey, and in 1998 with Dana International). Israel has hosted the event twice in 1979, 1999 in Jerusalem.
