German representative in the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest, Michelle, has been voted Woman of the year by the German edition of the magazine Maxim. To thank the readers, the singer let publish some pictures of herself, posing in the nude. After her appearance in the contest, she is still a well-known name in German media, which probably was the reason to be awarded:
Michelle is one of the most successful Schlager singers in Germany at the moment. Even more it was a surprise when she published a disco album in 2006 under the name Tanja Thomas (her real name is Tanja Hewer): My Passion reached a 21st spot in the charts but was nevertheless widely called a 'commercial flop'. Later last year, she competed in the German edition of Dancing on Ice, where she finished sixth out of eight contestants. All in all, she is best known for her varied private life she talks openly about in the tabloid press and – of course – for her Eurovision Song Contest appearance. Wer Liebe lebt finished 8th in Copenhagen and would be the last German song so far sung in the native language (although the last chorus was in English). In 1997, she already finished third in the German national final with Im Auge des Orkans. You can watch that performance at the end of the page.
