Our youngest readers might not know her but Greek singer aka the 1963 Luxembourgois Eurovision representative Nana Mouskouri is currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of her prestigious career. After performing in Athens in October, Nana Mouskouri is resuming her worldwide Happy Birthday Tour, with dates in Brazil this week.
Nana Mouskouri started her career in the 60’s, has sold millions and millions of records, performed all around the world, was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in October 1993, was a European Parliament Deputy for 5 years in the 90’s, was honoured by the French, Greek and Quebec governments (…) and of course took part, at the beginning of her career, in the 8th Eurovision Song Contest in London for Luxembourg, finishing 8th.
Nana Mouskouri represented Luxembourg at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Happy Birthday Tour is the occasion for Nana Mouskouri, to celebrate several 50th anniversaries. In 2012, she celebrated the 5o years of the recording of her first album and her collaboration with superstar Quincy Jones. This year she is celebrating the release of one her biggest success, Les parapluies de Cherbourg (the umbrellas of Cherbourg) with Michel Legrand and the 50 years of her participation at the Eurovision Song Contest. 2014 will mark the 50th anniversary of her collaboration with Harry Belafonte and her first live performances in America. Therefore, Nana, and her daughter Lénou, will be in Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Miami next January and Canada in March and April of the same year.
